Das Mennonitische Friedenszentrum Berlin (MFB) wurde im Rahmen der Ökumenischen Dekade zur Überwindung von Gewalt 2001-2010 gegründet.

Der Auftrag des Friedenszentrums:

• Friedenstheologie des Evangeliums innerhalb der mennonitischen Gemeinden zu fördern (u.a. Seminare, Vorträge, in der Taufvorbereitung) steht im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit.
• Friedenstheologische Positionen nach Außen in der Ökumene und gegenüber der Gesellschaft und dem Staat zu vertreten.

Eine außerordentliche Mitgliederversammlung der Vereinigung Deutscher Mennonitengemeinden (VDM) verabschiedete 2009 die Erklärung zum gerechten Frieden mit dem Titel „Richte unsere Füße auf den Weg des Friedens“ („Friedenserklärung“). Die dort dargelegte Theologie des gerechten Friedens und der Gewaltfreiheit mündet in einen zweiten Teil – den Bewährungsfeldern des gerechten Friedens und der Gewaltfreiheit. Die Projekte und Arbeitsschwerpunkte des MFB sollen exemplarisch darlegen, wie eine Kultur des Friedens als roter Faden im Miteinander aufgebaut werden kann:

„Der Friedensauftrag beschränkt sich nicht auf das Beenden von Gewalt, sondern will Strukturen schaffen, die zu einem gerechten und nachhaltigen Frieden beitragen“ (S.15 der Friedenserklärung der VDM)

Kernaufgaben des Mennonitischen Friedenszentrums Berlin:

Die VDM beauftragt das MFB zur Zusammenarbeit und Vernetzung mit unterschiedlichen Denominationen und den an diesen Themenfeldern arbeitenden Nichtregierungsorganisationen (NRO). Auf Grund der besonderen und leidvollen Verfolgungs– und Flüchtlingsgeschichte von Beginn des Täufertums an, sieht sich die VDM dazu verpflichtet, die Arbeit mit Flüchtlingen in die friedenspolitische Aufgabe aufzunehmen.

 VDM ist Gründungsmitglied des Ökumenischen Rats der Kirchen. Die Gemeinden und das MFB engagieren sich in der ökumenischen Zusammenarbeit lokal, regional, national und global nach ihren zur Verfügung stehenden Kräften. Das MFB arbeitet diesbezüglich mit der Arbeitsstelle Theologie der Friedenskirchen (ATF) und mit den nationalen Netzwerken der Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen (ACK).

Das MFB ist dem interkulturellen und interreligiösen Miteinander verpflichtet. Seinen Beitrag sieht das MFB:

• in Entwicklung theologisch fundierter Überlegungen zur Kultur der Inklusion;
• in der Initiierung und Begleitung toleranter und lebendiger Begegnungen.

In einer pluralistischen Gesellschaft sind zukunftsweisende Vorbilder dringend notwendig.

Die Gemeinden werden ermutigt, in gemeinsamer Arbeit mit dem Friedenszentrum Projekte in ihrem Umfeld zu entwickeln und zu gestalten – z. B. ökumenische Zusammenarbeit bei der Gewährung von Kirchenasyl und Netzwerkbildung, Einführung von Friedensgebeten (eigene oder ökumenisch), Organisation und Beteiligung an Veranstaltungen zu Frieden und Gewaltfreiheit, etc.

Das MFB steht für Vorträge, Workshops oder Unterrichtseinheiten zu den Themen wie Friedensethik und gewaltfreie Handlungskompetenz zur Verfügung. 

About us

The Mennonite Peace Center Berlin (MFB) was founded as part of the Ecumenical Decade to Overcome Violence 2001-2010.

Our mission:

• Our work focuses on promoting the peace theology of the Gospel within the Mennonite communities through seminars, lectures, baptism preparation, etc.
• To represent theological positions of peace towards the outside in the ecumenical sphere and vis-à-vis society and the state.

In 2009, an extraordinary general meeting of the Association of German Mennonite Congregations (VDM) adopted the declaration on a just peace with the title “Guide our feet to the path of peace” (“Declaration of Peace”). The theology of a just peace and non-violence presented in the declaration leads to a second part – the proving grounds of just peace and nonviolence. The projects and focal points of the MFB’s work are intended to provide examples of how a culture of peace can be established in coopreation and as a common thread:

“The peace mission is not limited to ending violence, but rather aims to create structures that contribute to a just and sustainable peace.”

Core tasks of the Mennonite Peace Center Berlin:

The VDM commissions the MFB to cooperate and network with different denominations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on these subject areas. Due to the special and painful history of persecution and exile from the beginning of Anabaptism, VDM is committed to including work with refugees in its peace policy mission.

VDM is a founding member of the World Council of Churches. The congregations and the MFB are committed to ecumenical cooperation locally, regionally, nationally and globally, according to the strengths at their disposal. In this regard, the MFB works with the Center for Peace Church Theology (ATF) and with the national networks of the Working Group of Christian Churches (in German known as the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen in Deutschland or ACK).

The MFB is committed to intercultural and interreligious cooperation. The MFB sees its contribution:

• in developing theologically based reflections on the culture of inclusion;
• in the initiation and support of tolerant and lively encounters.

In a pluralistic society, forward-looking role models are urgently needed.

The communities are encouraged to work together with the Peace Center to develop and design projects in their surroundings – e.g. ecumenical cooperation in granting church asylum and network formation, introduction of peace prayers (own or ecumenical), organization and participation in events on peace and non-violence, etc.

The MFB is available for lectures, workshops or teaching units on topics such as peace ethics and non-violent action skills.
